v1.1 / current

A marketing job is not in production until it still runs, and can fail a written bar, when the owner is offline.

Most mid-market marketing work is still a person.

Search Console is a Friday habit. Paid losers live in one media buyer's Ads Manager tab. The homepage form is "someone would notice." Those are not systems. They are calendars attached to names.

You find that out the honest way. Take the owner offline next Tuesday. If the job stops, it was never live.

Three Jobs That Go Dark

The crawl pass. One SEO lead opens Search Console, spots a 404 or a title regression, and files a ticket. When they are out, the regression sits until the next Friday they are back.

The form. A required field disappears in a CMS edit. Conversion rate dips. Nobody sees it until a weekly lookback, if then.

The paid destination. A hero offer changes. Three live ads still point at the old URL, or the UTM dies in a template. Spend continues. The report lies.

None of those jobs need a new model. They need a written fail, a scheduled run, and an exception the CMO can read.

Write Four Fails For One Page

Pick the highest-intent URL you own. Homepage or a campaign landing page. Write what "broken" means before anyone touches a tool.

  1. The primary CTA is missing, or the form lost a required field.
  2. LCP on mobile is worse than last week's measured baseline.
  3. The title or H1 changed to a string that is not in the approved claim list.
  4. The URL returns anything other than 200, or a paid ad still points at it after a 301.

That list is the job. A person can run it. A script can run it. An LLM can draft the exception note. The list does not care.

If you cannot write four fails, you do not have a job yet. You have a vibe.

Schedule It. Do Not Publish It.

The output is not a live page and not a live ad.

The output is an exception: URL, which fail tripped, screenshot or crawl line, and a CMS or ad-account draft if the fix is obvious. A human publishes. The run does not.

Put it on a clock. 6am, every weekday. The same four fails. The same destination. If Tuesday produces nothing, that is a result. If Tuesday produces three fails and nobody is in the office, that is the system working.

Read the exception pile on Friday. If the pile is empty for three Fridays, either the page is stable or the fails are too soft. Tighten them.

Do Not Buy Another Seat First

The usual move is another ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude seat for the person who already owns the Friday habit.

That makes the person faster. It does not make the job live.

Do this week instead. Name the one job that would go dark if your best person took Tuesday off. Write four fails. Run it on a schedule that does not need them. Read the pile Friday.

When that job has produced three exception piles you did not have to start, you have one piece of marketing in production. Then pick the next URL.
